About Transfer Credit Assessments
The Transfer Explorer may be used as a guide to determine the transferability of your external coursework. Please note the following:
- Transfer Explorer has only included external courses that have been assessed before. If you do not see a particular course in the results based on your search criteria, that course has not yet been assessed to determine eligibility for transfer credit.
- Course searches can tell you what credits you may be eligible for at these divisions: Faculty of Arts & Science, University of Toronto Mississauga, and University of Toronto Scarborough.
- Your transfer credit assessment results may differ from what you see on Transfer Explorer.
- Students must still submit a credit assessment request to their division to have their external coursework officially reviewed and approved.
Current University of Toronto Students

Newly Admitted University of Toronto Students
If students have received a conditional offer of admission, they may be requested to complete an on-admission transfer credit assessment. This would involve submitting a transfer credit application, providing a transcript from the student's previous institution as well as supporting documentation, after which provisional transfer credits may be awarded.
For more information on how on-admission transfer credit applications work for your division, please refer to the Helpful Links section below.
Eligibility
Eligibility for transfer credit assessments is dependent on the type of assessment required and the division(s) involved. All courses eligible for transfer credit are subject to the guidelines of individual departmental and program areas.
In general, the courses a student plans to take should meet the following conditions:
- Courses must be taken at an accredited university.
- Courses must not be graded on a pass/fail or credit/no credit basis. You may be eligible for transfer credit for courses in which your final mark is one full grade higher than the minimum passing grade. For example, if the passing mark in courses at your institution is 50%, you will need a final mark of 60% or higher for courses to be eligible for transfer credit.
- The maximum number of transfer credits you are eligible for is based on what type of credential you completed or are seeking to complete. Please refer to the guidelines set out for your particular division for more information on this.
